A week of endurance trail in Italy's Aosta Valley, five races from 30 to 450 kilometres around Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn and Gran Paradiso, crowned by the legendary Tor des Géants.
Every September TORX with Kailas takes over the Aosta Valley for a full week of endurance trail running. Five races converge on Courmayeur, from the 30 kilometre Passage au Malatrà to the colossal 450 kilometre Tor des Glaciers, with the famous 330 kilometre Tor des Géants as its beating heart. Run along the region's high routes beneath the greatest peaks of the Alps, it is regarded as one of the toughest and most beautiful trail gatherings on earth.
TORX with Kailas is a week of endurance trail running set in the Aosta Valley, the alpine heart of northern Italy, with Courmayeur as its home and finish line. Every September runners from dozens of countries gather here to take on a family of races that climb the region's two great high routes, the Alte Vie 1 and 2, beneath the giants of the Alps.
Five distances make up the circuit. The TOR450, the Tor des Glaciers, is the most extreme, a continuous 450 kilometres with around 32,000 metres of climbing through the wildest and highest corners of the valley. The TOR330, the Tor des Géants, is the flagship, a single nonstop loop of 330 kilometres and some 24,000 metres of ascent. Below them sit the TOR130, the Tot Dret at 130 kilometres and 12,000 metres, the TOR100 running 100 kilometres from the foot of the Matterhorn toward Mont Blanc, and the TOR30, the Passage au Malatrà, a 30 kilometre taste of the high country built around the iconic Col Malatrà.
Whatever the distance, the terrain is the same: rocky traverses, technical singletrack and long alpine climbs to passes such as Col Loson at 3,299 metres, while Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn, Monte Rosa and Gran Paradiso stand guard on every side. On the longest races, life bases and aid stations let runners eat, recover a drop bag and grab a few hours of sleep before heading back out, often racing for days with little pause. The final descent from Col Malatrà into Courmayeur, shared by the longest routes, has become one of the most emotional finishes in the sport, and those who complete the Tor des Géants join a small community known simply as Giants.
