Four races across Hong Kong's wildest island, from Silvermine Beach to the summit of Lantau Peak
TransLantau by UTMB takes runners through the untamed landscapes of Lantau Island, Hong Kong's largest. From stone stairways climbing to 934 m summits to subtropical forests and coastal cliffs, this UTMB World Series event is one of Asia's most iconic trail races.
TransLantau by UTMB is one of Asia's most celebrated trail running events, offering four distances across the spectacular terrain of Lantau Island. Starting from Silvermine Beach in Mui Wo, runners set off on courses of 25, 50, 80 and 120 km that traverse two country parks, ancient stone stairways and 80% singletrack trail. The route climbs to the summit of Lantau Peak (934 m), Hong Kong's second highest mountain, and crosses the windswept ridgeline of Sunset Peak (854 m) before descending through subtropical forest to the coast.
Along the way, runners pass through Tai O, one of Hong Kong's oldest fishing villages, and skirt the Ngong Ping plateau where the Big Buddha and Po Lin Monastery stand. The course weaves between dense jungle, exposed ridgelines and clifftop coastal paths, all within sight of one of the world's most famous skylines. Heat, humidity and thousands of hand laid stone steps make the terrain as demanding as it is beautiful.
Despite its proximity to the towers of Kowloon and Hong Kong Island, Lantau feels like a different world. TransLantau captures that contrast perfectly: a genuine mountain challenge on the doorstep of one of the planet's great cities, wrapped in the warmth of a local community that lines the streets of Mui Wo to cheer every finisher home.
