Eleven races across four mountains in northern Thailand, from the jungle to the Roof of Thailand at 2,565 m
HOKA Chiang Mai Thailand by UTMB is the Asian Major of the UTMB World Series, a two week festival spanning Doi Inthanon, Thailand's highest peak, the UNESCO listed Doi Luang Chiang Dao, Doi Suthep and the foothills around Chiang Mai. With eleven races from 3 to 168 km, it is one of the largest trail events in the world.
HOKA Chiang Mai Thailand by UTMB is the flagship Asian event of the UTMB World Series, welcoming thousands of runners from around the globe to northern Thailand's most spectacular mountains. Spread over two weekends, the festival begins at Doi Inthanon National Park, the "Roof of Thailand" at 2,565 m, before moving to Chiang Mai's PAO Park for races through the Doi Suthep Pui range and the UNESCO listed Doi Luang Chiang Dao Biosphere Reserve. Eleven distances cover every ambition, from a 3 km warm up to the brutal Chiang Dao 160 (168 km, 8,100 m D+), with the Elephant 100, Hmong 50, Inthanon 50 and several 20 km formats in between.
Courses climb from tropical lowland jungle at 400 m through bamboo groves and montane cloud forest to exposed ridgelines above the canopy. Runners pass through Hmong, Pga Gan Yaw and Karen hill tribe villages, skirt terraced rice paddies, cross temple grounds and wind past highland research stations. The Elephant 100 threads through Mae Taeng District and the Mae Sa valley before finishing in the city, while the Inthanon 50 loops over the Doi Hua Suea and Doi Pha Tang peaks with panoramic views of the surrounding ranges.
Beyond the racing, the event is a celebration of Thai culture and community. Local villages host aid stations, sustainability initiatives fund wildfire prevention in Doi Inthanon, and the festival coincides with Thailand's National Day on December 5th. Day and night race options, double Running Stones for every finisher and the warmth of Thai hospitality make Chiang Mai one of the most beloved stops on the global trail calendar.
